Girlguiding Nottinghamshire County Commissioner, Kirstie Pogson is delighted to announce that she has appointed Heather Watson and June Bingham as her Assistant County Commissioners. Heather and June will take up their new positions with effect from 1 June 2021.
‘I am really looking forward to working with them both and I am sure you will all join with me in congratulating them on their appointments’ says Kirstie.
Please find below a small introduction for both Heather and June: –
Heather Watson
Heather became a Brownie at the age of 7 and has never left! She holds roles with Brownies and Guides and has played key roles on the awards committee and at Megamoot 2018 as Head of Sub Camps.
Heather works for a large Engineering company, managing a team of Engineers across the world, and loves nothing more than a good project to get her teeth into. At home, Heather has a budding Rainbow, who loves messy crafts! She also likes to spend her free time, when rules allow, walking in the mountains and camping.
As we move out of this pandemic, Heather is looking forward to getting to meet you and working together in this new normal.
‘It was lovely to be asked to take on this role and I am excited to see what the next five years brings’, says Heather. ‘We face some new challenges this year, but as adaptability and flexibility are the key strengths in our leaders… I am sure that we will all take it in our stride. I am looking forward to joining you on your journey and meeting you all at county events.’
June Bingham
June is really honoured to be asked to support Kirstie as Assistant County Commissioner for Girlguiding Nottinghamshire. All her guiding has been done in the county starting out at 1st Awsworth Brownies then moving to Guides, where she loved camp, church parade and badges.
June had a long break when she started work but always had fond memories and encouraged both of her daughters to join and this is how she came back to guiding, when her youngest daughter wanted to be a Rainbow in 1993. She volunteered with Rainbows for a few years, before being invited to help on a Guide camp and from this rediscovered her love of camping and took over the Guide unit not long after, as well as the Rangers.
June has had many roles during her guiding life; she has been district commissioner, county camp adviser, outdoor activities adviser and training co-ordinator. She has also served on both Elton and Hanson House property committees.
‘I will do my best for the county during my term, and I can’t wait to get started’, says June.
