Local Guide Leader Maria Kisylyczka is getting a drastic hair-cut to raise funds for two good causes close to her heart.
Maria – who lives in Gamston and leads 12th West Bridgford Guides and Rainbows in addition to 2nd Gamston Rainbows – is having her head shaved for charity on Saturday 10th October and is appealing for sponsors to help her raise funds for the NUH stroke unit and the breast cancer department, both at Nottingham’s City Hospital.
Mum to three daughters, Maria has been a nurse for 29 years, 25 of them at NUH. ‘I want to assist in the development of services at our breast cancer department as well as improve the stroke service,’ she explains. ‘I’ve worked here for many years and have also had family experience of the stroke unit. I’m currently undergoing chemotherapy to treat my own breast cancer, so I’m trying to turn a bad thing into a positive. Both areas have a huge impact both psychologically and emotionally on the individual and families alike, so please give generously.’
Maria is having her head shaved at work by Sarah Collingridge from Power Cuts in West Bridgford. She plans to split all the money raised equally between the NUH stroke unit and the breast cancer department.
